Following the review of modalities for fundraising activities earlier proposed by the Adhoc LOC, the STATES, ZONAL AND DIASPORA CHAPTERS ARE CALLED UPON TO GO AHEAD AND ORGANISE THEIR FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES ACCORDING TO THEIR PLANS. The Ad-hoc Local Organising Committee, LOC for the Centenary celebration assessed the timelines and concluded that the Fundraising SteeringTeam earlier slated to visit state chapters for physical interactions can no longer undertake the exercise because of lack of funds and the time to the last week of December 2021 finals. as forwarded OVER RATING THE PRESIDENCY?  There is an interesting interview which ThisDay had with the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola.   Sulaiman Ibrahim Jalo, one of the most consistent defender of PMB who doesn’t take any criticism of his mentor lightly copied the said interview to reinforce his position that PMB should be exonerated from some of the failures of his government. The main thrust of the argument of Fashola is that we are demanding too much from Mr President. Let me quote the relevant portion of the interview: “Those of you who manage public communication must bring back home where the real issues are. We have the impression that our president is all powerful, go and read the constitution. We are conflicting his duties with his powers… He has powers to confirm, to appoint... that but he is not that powerful. Somebody who can’t pass his budget of his own…. The Phase two of the centenary celebration of the iconic school, (for the benefit of the elder alumni), the former Elementary School,  the Middle School, the Provincial Secondary School, PSS Yola, then the Government Secondary School, GSS Yola and now General Murtala Muhammad College, GMMC Yola, which will be the crowning series of activities to mark the 100 years of the great school, is scheduled to be held in the last week of December, 2021. The fears expressed on the probable return to the 1966 scenario of doom and uncertainties hanging in the atmosphere, the absence of trust and confidence in the next person with you or near you if he happened not to be from your region or your tribe or religious persuasion. In 1966 the atmosphere was charged and people were looking over their shoulders in order not to miss any happenings. First, I was in Gambe Village on the 15th of January when the sudden and unexpected news of the killing of the Sardauna Sokoto, the Premier of the Northern Region was announced over the Radio Kaduna. The news came with mixed reactions from the population who were just coming out of the just concluded general elections 1964, in the country.
