TIDDO YO DADDO ROAD TO THE FINAL CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS. SECOND BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY OF THE ADHOC COMMITTEE FOR THE CENTENARY CELEBRATION, TYD ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, GMMC YOLA ON 16TH NOVEMBER 2021. Behold! The second birthday anniversary of the Adhoc Committee, a creation of the Congress of the TYD National Alumni Association of the great school, General Murtala Muhammad College, GMMC Yola comes up on Tuesday the 16th of November, 2021. Like the twinkle of the eyes, two years has rolled by stealthly,  barely noticed. Even though with flurry of Adhoc Committee's activities, strategies and planning to beat the Centenary year Celebration timelines. A near miraculous or impossible assignment to achieve, going by standards set for preparations for such celebration in other climes. An example I often refer to was the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Federal Government College Sokoto. Alumni Association members of the FGCS started preparations for their 50 years' Golden Jubilee celebr

Agitators for Biafara are holding the wrong end of the stick - F. J. F.

Forwarded  AGITATORS FOR BIAFRA ARE HOLDING THE WRONG END OF THE STICK Agitators for Biafara are not well schooled in the art of struggle for freedom. How can you inflict economic pains to those you intend to liberate. You tried violence in the past and it failed. Go learn about non violent method from Mahatma Ghadi, Martin Luther ( JR) which worked very well for them. Mahatma Ghadi secured independence for India, while that of Martin Luther, it relatively ended racial discrimination.  Nelson Mandela tried guerrilla war, it didn’t work. In the end he was imprisoned. Back from prison, he deplored new strategies. One he engaged the apartheid regime in dialogue which won blacks some rights. Secondly he put sustained pressure on international community to persuade their ally-  the apartheid regime to end the obnoxious system. Thirdly he worked on himself to be moderate, a none communist and somebody who will not send the whites parking like Zimbabwe by promising not to dispossessed whites

OCTOBER 2021, TIDDO YO DADDO NATIONAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF  GMMC YOLA, NOTICE. NOTICE!! NOTICE!! ADHOC LOC FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES IN STATES AND LOCAL/DIASPORA CHAPTERS OF THE TYD. Following the review of modalities for fundraising activities earlier proposed by the Adhoc LOC, the STATES, ZONAL AND DIASPORA CHAPTERS ARE CALLED UPON TO GO AHEAD AND ORGANISE THEIR FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES ACCORDING TO THEIR PLANS. The Ad-hoc Local Organising Committee, LOC for the Centenary celebration assessed the timelines and concluded that the Fundraising SteeringTeam earlier slated to visit state chapters for physical interactions can no longer undertake the exercise because of lack of funds and the time to the last week of December 2021 finals. Adhoc LOC however, advise the various chapters to prepare and organise their versions of the fundraisers. Ad-hoc LOC has appointed/nominated some keen alumni association members, some of who attended the LOC meeting recently on fundraising activities or those

Over rating the Presidency? - F. J. Fwa

as forwarded OVER RATING THE PRESIDENCY?  There is an interesting interview which ThisDay had with the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola.   Sulaiman Ibrahim Jalo, one of the most consistent defender of PMB who doesn’t take any criticism of his mentor lightly copied the said interview to reinforce his position that PMB should be exonerated from some of the failures of his government. The main thrust of the argument of Fashola is that we are demanding too much from Mr President. Let me quote the relevant portion of the interview: “Those of you who manage public communication must bring back home where the real issues are. We have the impression that our president is all powerful, go and read the constitution. We are conflicting his duties with his powers… He has powers to confirm, to appoint... that but he is not that powerful. Somebody who can’t pass his budget of his own…. So the presidency is overrated... But again, I tell you, we should focus more on the sub national level, there

Phase two of the 100 Years Celebration of General Murtala Muhammad College, Yola.

ATTENTION: PHASE TWO OF THE 100 YEARS CELEBRATION. The Phase two of the centenary celebration of the iconic school, (for the benefit of the elder alumni), the former Elementary School,  the Middle School, the Provincial Secondary School, PSS Yola, then the Government Secondary School, GSS Yola and now General Murtala Muhammad College, GMMC Yola, which will be the crowning series of activities to mark the 100 years of the great school, is scheduled to be held in the last week of December, 2021. The Congress fixed the December period by voting during the general meeting held in the college in mid 2021. That decision cancelled AD-HOC suggestions for an earlier date for the celebration. Adhoc Committee was created on the 16th November, 2019 by the Congress in lieu of the TYD National body that was not traced two months to the Centenary year 2020.   His Excellency Ahaji  Atiku Abubakar, Waziri Adamawa, former VP FRN, founding President TYD AA with members of the Ad-hoc committee for the centenary celebration led by the Chairman Sa'adu Abubakar Gambe on a courtesy call in his Yola residence on 17/7/2021. BACKGROUND HISTORY OF THE AD-HOC COMMITTEE The Adhoc Committee of the National Alumni Association of the century old school, General Murtala Muhammad College Yola, was inaugurated on the 16th of November 2019, less than two months to the centenary year 2020. It was established to prepare for the centenary celebration of the great school in the absence of the Executive Committee/Council, the Exco, of the National Association, whose tenure started from 2007 and by implications has lapsed but remained the only legal body. The Adhoc Committee came into being by the authority of the Congress, the General Meeting of all the bona fide Alumni of the school who are alive, graduates of the school between 1920 and 2019. The Congress is

The Repeat of 1966, Drums of war. 🥁 ⚔️ part II

THE REPEAT OF 1966, DRUMS OF WAR. PART TWO. THE JOURNEY FROM LAGOS TO GAMBE VILLAGE, DECEMBER 1966. My narrative, the 'The repeat of 1966, drums of war' in my earlier post was the beginning of the scenario that led to the fracticidal, brutal and deadly Nigerian civil war, as a consequence of the crisis which ensued  after the gruesome coup de tat of the  15th January 1966, where some majority Igbo military officers spear headed the controversial coup that eliminated majority political and senior military officers from the Northern and Western Regions of Nigeria without a loss of life of any from the Igbo Eastern Nigeria. Lagos was as ever a bustling city and it remained so in spite of the monumental episode, the military coup that took place less than two months earlier, when I arrived Lagos to resume studies at Federal Science School, FSS Lagos. It appeared people in Lagos were oblivious of the happenings in the country, even though the main theater of action of the coup de t
